While ability has a part to play, the right habits and a strong system of belief can often get us on the right track to taking positive action.
The growth mindset was created by Carol S Dweck, a professor of Stanford University. According to Dweck, a growth mindset doesn’t come from achieving things in business or as students. Instead, growth mindsets belong to resilient people who have set goals for themselves and made a decision to move towards positive changes every day.
It’s about how you speak to yourself every day in the privacy of your mind. This is something that all people do from time to time, but our habits convince us that we should plan for failure rather than for success. A growth mindset can also be helped by surrounding ourselves with like-minded people, who support our goal and objective and encourage our belief.
If you mainly use negative language when thinking about your skills and achievements, you have a fixed mindset. Achieving a growth mindset helps you to leave the restrictions of negative thinking behind. When you look toward your goal, challenge yourself to stop asking “what if I fail?”

Like much of what happens to you, growth in your state of mind comes from experiences. However, we’re often too busy focusing on bad experiences to recognize the good ones. Growth isn’t just about learning from your mistakes and achieving the big things in life. If you want to enjoy the growth mindset, and get more out of your life, you need to focus on the positive aspects of whatever you’re doing. Think about each achievement you’ve made on the path to your ultimate goal, and the changes you’ve made in your life up until now.
Though you might not have done as much this year as you did the last that doesn’t mean you haven’t been achieving anything. Take some time to sit down and think about the efforts you’ve made and the people you’ve connected with on the path to where you are. You may even find that talking to other people on a similar route can help you take more positive action.
Overcoming the fixed mindset you had this year, or the year before, and making your growth mindset work can be a challenge. However, you’ll find that setting yourself goals while being mindful of the success you’ve achieved in the past can be a great help.
Step 2: Eliminate Negativity
Maybe you’ve had a difficult day, or you’re not in the place you thought you would be this year. Either way, the key to success, and a growth mindset is not letting the little things get you down. As people, we don’t always have the easiest time setting realistic goals. That can mean that the things we think we’ll get done in a day, actually take a year.
Part of reaching success might mean talking to people who know more about your goals than you. For instance, you could speak to other people who have been through the same processes, or ask your coach how much time they think it will take for you to reach your goals. When it comes to success and motivation, there’s nothing wrong with seeking help.
When it comes to goal setting, you can’t always get a fixed insight into the number of days it will take to reach success. Remember, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how long it takes to achieve something if you find yourself achieving positive growth along the way.
Step 3: Create a Vision for Motivation
Finally, if you’re looking for the motivation to move from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset, then creating a vision should help you to get to work. Change is a difficult thing for anyone to achieve. In some circumstances, change can even be frightening. However, if you can envision your goal, then you’re already making the most of a growth mindset.
It doesn’t matter if you’re starting a new business or making a personal change in your life, allowing yourself to imagine your success creates a powerful level of excitement that can help to put your body and brain to work. When our brain is excited at the thought of achieving goals, we work harder to make our visions a reality.
