Anyone who has been to a few of our BOOM Sessions knows that we love to use the VersaClimber during our workouts. While some newcomers note that the climber looks like a death trap, others like to dive in without knowing what the machine is for or how to use it. Often, these contenders end up scraped and bruised because they aren’t sure how to properly use the machine.

For anyone who doesn’t know how to use the VersaClimber, but wants to get more cardio out of your boxing workouts, read on for a crash course on this simple machine.

Using the VersaClimber

When you first approach the VersaClimber for the cardio portion of your boxing workout, make sure that one of the foot pedals is completely touching the bottom of the machine before you mount. Trying to put both your feet on the pedals without securing one to the bottom of the machine leads to falling or scraping your shins. Getting hurt takes the fun out of hitting, so take a couple seconds to get started on the right pedal.

After you safely place both feet on the machine and bring them level, adjust the pegs where you place your hands. The appropriate height for the pegs is right at chin level, so adjust them by pressing and holding the button on the side of the peg and releasing it once it’s at the desired height.

When your settings are in order, push your hips back slightly so that your body is at the same angle as the machine. Holding your body this way ensures that you use the whole hip complex, getting your glutes AND hamstrings activated, while keeping pressure off your knees and preventing tendonitis.

Benefits of the VersaClimber

The VersaClimber is such a powerful tool for fitness because it ensures that you use your upper and lower body at the same time to get an effective cardio workout during boxing training. Instead of working on your arms, legs, and cardio separately, this climber allows you to do all three at the same time.

Even better, you get the benefits of running, biking, and hiking without the damaging impact on hips, knees, and ankles.

Climb Your Mountain

When your body is in the right position on the climber, you’re ready to reach the mountaintop safely. Use the VersaClimber during cardio boxing workouts to build strength and power in your arms and legs, as well as practice endurance conditioning!
